Major Honours: Qualifying for the 1999 Rugby World Cup

They may be one of the minnows of world rugby, but Spain are nevertheless a proud rugby nation as was demonstrated by their wholehearted display during RWC '99 having fought their way through the qualification rounds to gain a place in the finals.

The '99 World Cup was Spain's first-ever trip to RWC and undoubtedly gave a massive boost to a country where rugby is still a minority pursuit. Spain also participate in the Six Nations 'B' Championship which will serve as a gauge for any future improvements.

The women's game in Spain also continues to flourish, with the national team in the front rank in women's competition.
