Club Colours: Webster focused on Cardiff Blues after victory against Connacht last weekend

Scotland international Simon Webster admits he is looking forward to another huge challenge when Edinburgh clash with Cardiff Blues at Murrayfield on Friday.

The main reason for the back's eagerness is the anticipation of lining up against former British and Irish Lions captain Gareth Thomas and Grand Slam winner Tom Shanklin.

The Blues are currently one place below fourth-placed Edinburgh in the Magners League table, with the competition now back in full swing after the Six Nations break.

Yet despite in-form Welsh players returning, Webster believes his side can deal with the experience of Thomas and company.

"He is a really good player with a massive amount of experience," he said, speaking to the club's official website.

"He doesn't make many mistakes and he is a hard player to play against.

"But we will look at how we can handle him and how we can try to implement our game plan against Cardiff."

The Scots claimed the spoils in the away fixture at Cardiff Arms Park back in early January with an 11-10 success.

And Webster believes Edinburgh's young team - with an average age of just 26 - can call on that narrow victory as impetus for Friday.

"The game at the Arms Park in January was tough because the weather was so bad," he added.

"There was talk of the match being called off a couple of hours before because there was so much water on the pitch.

"But in those conditions I thought we produced a mature performance and we managed the game well.

"When we did create chances we got points from them, so again we need to keep the scoreboard ticking over. But I'm sure it will be a very different game this time around."
