Air NZ Cup warming up

Saturday 19th July 2008

With the Air New Zealand just weeks away from kicking off, the teams have been warming up in pre-season matches around the country.

All Blacks half-back Jimmy Cowan made an appearance for the Stags off the bench, however Canterbury were too strong winning 24-14 in Christchurch.

Bay of Plenty have beaten North Harbour 33-29 at Bay Park.

Hawke's Bay brushed aside Taranaki 31-13 and Otago were hammered by Wellington 45-10.

Big defence, continuity on attack and a strong attacking scrum platform from Wellington paved the way for a convincing seven-tries-to-two win in front of a bumper Porirua Park crowd.

The Wellington Lions play their third and final warm-up game against Canterbury in Christchurch next Friday, ahead of their Air New Zealand Cup season opener against Hawke's Bay at Westpac Stadium on Friday August 1.

Tasman get the tournament rolling against Bay of Plenty in Blenheim on July 31st.
