Rocky Elsom: Set to appeal

Australian flank Rocky Elsom has appealed against a one-match suspension handed out for interfering with Victor Matfield in the air during a line-out in Saturday's Tri-Nations Test between Australia and South Africa in Durban.

A SANZAR judicial hearing found him guilty of the offence and suspended him from all rugby until Monday, 1 September.

Elsom's appeal will be heard by telephonic conference on Thursday. The time and composition of the SANZAR Judicial Panel will be advised in due course.

The suspension did raise eyebrows, with many commenting that it could set a precedent for anyone caught for the same offence, leading to a proliferation of suspensions and citings.
