Portugal stumble in Connacht

Monday 10th November 2008

Portugal's November, which started with an impressive 13-21 defeat to Canada a week ago, derailed a bit on Sunday when they were beaten 27-11 by Connacht in Galway.

Ireland U20 full-back John O'Brien starred for the Irish, scoring the opening try two minutes before the break to open up a game that was locked at a tense 3-3.

But the Irish then notched O'Brien's try, and another quick one before the half-time whistle from Troy Nathan, run in from long range, to make the score 17-3 at half-time.

Portugal winger Goncalo Foro got in for a try after 49 minutes but Connacht closed out the game with further tries from Brett Wilkinson and Mel Deane.
