Australia number eight Wycliff Palu is to return home after suffering a recurrence of a long-standing shoulder injury.

The 26-year-old aggravated the problem, which affects the ligaments and cartilage in his shoulder, during the Wallabies' 18-13 win in France last weekend.

Palu has been ruled out of Saturday's Test against Wales and the Barbarians fixture at Wembley on December 3.

"His shoulder hasn't responded to treatment over the last two days and it became clear that he wouldn't be available. The best thing for Cliff was to head home early to seek further treatment," said Australia coach Robbie Deans.

Palu leaves for Sydney on Thursday morning.
